Dog Training Services

Our learning Philosophy

We love working with individuals and families who are looking to have a solid family dog to enjoy! We've worked with a variety of ages, families, backgrounds and breeds.

Using positive reinforcement techniques, we offer small group class packages and private training right here in Boone, IA.

Our goal is to help you reach a better understanding of your dog and help you to grow your relationship together. We believe in boundaries and setting the dog up for success. We allow our dogs to make choices, providing them freedom and autonomy while we reward and mark the right things. We are here to help you build a relationship, not a dictatorship with your dog(s).

General Guidelines for Training

Short, Structured, Positive Training yields the best results

Avoid training "burnout" or "checking out" as the training will become completely ineffective.

PUPPIES (8weeks-6 months): Puppies have short attention spans and are developing their focus ability. Aim 5-10 minutes per sessions, 2-3 times a day at home.

ADOLESCENTS (6mon-2 years): As dogs mature, their ability to focus increases.

Train 10–20-minute sessions, 1-2 times a day at home.

ADULTS (2-7 years): Adult dogs can handle longer sessions, but 15-30 minutes of focused training is sufficient.

SENIOR (7+years): Senior dogs benefit from shorter sessions. 5-10 minutes to maintain learned behaviors and gentle mental stimulation.

Questions and Answers (FAQ)

Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.

  1. Positive training means that we use positive rewards and/or experiences to shape or cue behavior.
  2. We do not use intimidation, fear, or physical punishment.
  3. We try to understand from the dog’s point of view.
  4. The 3 D’s – Duration, Distance, Distraction

It takes patience, dedication, and lots of hard work to have a wonderfully trained dog. Remember, training and exposure takes time!

Unfortunately, our training program is based on continuous learning so we can't reschedule. If weather or other unforeseen circumstances arise, the group class will be rescheduled by the trainer with those enrolled.

For liability and safety purposes at this time, we do not accept dogs who are a Level 2 or higher on the following bite chart referenced above. We can refer you to a specialist.
